This year Scoil Ghráinne Community National School have been working together to prioritise wellbeing and to ensure that our pupils feel safe and happy in school. In relation to this, an afterschool club; Wellbeing Warriors has been set up and to date we have worked with children from 3rd, 4th and 5th class. Wellbeing Warriors focuses on helping children to develop a positive growth mindset, enhance their communication skills and empower children to express and understand their feelings. Wellbeing Warriors after-school club is a fantastic opportunity for your child to become a champion of his or her own wellbeing through a variety of strategies such as circle time activities, mindfulness and the development of social skills in a safe and nurturing environment. Many students in 1st and 2nd class had fun creating wonderful pieces of art together in Art Attack Club last term. The teachers were so impressed with their fantastic ideas! We have been very busy in Art Attack Club since we came back to school! The students created their very own Monsters today using lots of different coloured paper! They really enjoyed adding different features to their monsters. For example, eyes, ears, hair, spots, teeth and even some students had fire coming out of their monsters mouth! Today 20 girls from 4th and 5th class took part in Scoil Ghrainne’s first ever camogie training. The girls were super and Ms. Woods, Ms Kavanagh and Ms Winters were so impressed with them. The girls train every Tuesday from 2.30-3.30. Well done...
On Wednesday, one of our school’s quiz teams took part in the first ever series of PhoenixFm’s School Duel series. The team were pitched against Mount Sackville School in a nail biting competition. There were rounds of easy, medium and difficult questions. Our team were trailing in the scores for much of the competition but came boack to win by a margin of 10 points in the end. Congratulations to Josh, Aaron, Claire and Hazel from 6th class and we wish them luck in the next round. I hope you all enjoyed the Winter break. It is unfortunate that we find ourselves in
this difficult situation but I am confident that we will survive the challenges we face
and be stronger for it.
As you know we have moved to remote learning and we are currently drawing up our
action plan. All teachers are engaging with their classes through Aladdin this week as
we sort through some IT issues and plan for SEESAW which we will be using after
that. We know that it can be very difficult for some households to manage particularly
as there may be more than one child accessing devices. We don’t want you to be
overwhelmed however. It is important that children stay connected with their learning
and we want to support them as much as we can. With that in mind , we will put up new
ideas and suggestions on the website each week in addition to what teachers will be
