Seomra Dearg love our new classroom and are really enjoying being back in school. This week we have been learning all about autumn. We looked at and talked about the changes that happen during autumn. The leaves change colour, the weather gets colder, animals hibernate, the food gets harvested, the days get shorter and we start to wrap up in warmer clothes. We were very excited about going on a Nature Walk this week to see these things, but unfortunately you cannot rely on the Irish weather, so we’ll have to try again next week! We are looking forward to collecting lots of items for our Nature Table.
Duing Visual Art, we used dot painting (Pointillism) to create colourful Autumn trees with red, orange, brown and yellow leaves falling. Using cotton buds was fun, and we got to keep our hands nice and clean.
We have been revising over all of our single sound phonics since we came back. This week we focused on j z and w. We really enjoy our stations in Ready Set Go maths and also have learned all about 2-D shapes. We discovered how many sides and corners were on a square, rectangle, triangle and a circle. It was fun drawing our own shapes in class too. As Gaeilge, bhíomar ag foghlaim faoi Bia. Is maith linn a lán rudaí difriúil, chomh maith le úlla, prátaí, criospaí, brioscaí, cáis agus subh!
We know that August will end with the celebration of Hallowe’en. We are very excited for this fun and exciting time of the year. We have set up a Potions Lab in our room, where little witches and wizards can create a potion for anything you want. We wrote our order for a potion on an order form and waved our magic wand to make it happen. Some of us wanted to fly, some to be invisible and a few, including Mr. Murray, wanted lots of money!!!
We are delighted to be part of the Epic Elephants House. This week we even won the House Prize and got a star for our crest. Next week our Elephant mascot will be visiting our class, so we are very excited for him to be in Seomra Dearg. At assembly this week, we even performed Our Important Rules song. If you see any of us, just ask and we would love to perform for you!
