The school would like to extend a huge congratulations to the three quiz teams that took part in the Credit Union Schools Quiz on Monday 30th January. There were over 30 teams from schools in the locality participating. There were 12 rounds of some very challenging questions but one of our school quiz teams came in 1st place to claim the title this year with a very impressive 59 out of 72. Our other 2 teams did extremely well also, finishing very high on the score board. The team of Josh, Aaron, Claire and Hazel from 6th class were on the winning team. This is the second quiz won by the school this year. Well done to all of the other children on the teams who worked so hard for the competition. Mr. Byrne and Ms. Moloney are very proud of you (Jody -4th class, Ben-5th class, Shruthi, Daniel, Karolina, Neha, Promise and Jeffrey – 6th class). the winning team now go on to represent the school in more rounds of the Credit Union Quiz in March.
Here we are at the end of a long year. We have been kept very busy since the beginning of the school year last August. 2021 is definitely a year we will all remember…but let’s dwell on the positives… we learned good hand hygiene, coughing etiquette, social distancing , extended our medical vocabularies, embraced ventilation, spent so much time outdoors, increased our fitness levels, survived in our bubbles and pods. Our school tours were a huge success and nobody was “travel sick”. Active week and Creative week were very enjoyable and “did what it said on the tin”. Our Intercultural Week looked a little different this year but the cooking demonstrations were very popular and we may do that again next year. Thank you to all the children for the fashion show and beautiful art work.
This week we celebrated the graduation of our 6th classes and 4 children from Croí. We hope they are leaving Scoil Ghrainne with a good sense of who they are, confidence in their abilities and an awareness of their talent. You can be very proud of your children and we wish them every success on the continuation of their journey.
As a new Principal here in Scoil Ghrainne, I am truly impressed with the dedication and commitment of staff. Thanks to them for all the work and contributions they make every day. Thanks to our Parents Association and to our Board of Management who are volunteering their time to help in the running of this great school. Without them, we would not be able to do what we do.
No doubt 2022 will bring new challenges, but we have built resilience and learned a lot about teamwork this year. We look forward to new beginnings and safer times.
Keep an eye on Aladdin during the summer months and we will keep you posted.
Stay safe and enjoy your holidays,
