This week in Seomra Dearg we have been reading The Lighthouse Keepers’ Lunch by Ronda and David Armitage. This made us very hungry reading about all his delicious and scrumptious food. We had great fun hot-seating the characters from the story and answering questions. Even Hamish the cat and those greedy seagulls got a chance to explain themselves!
Then we made ourselves even hungrier by discussing and writing out recipes for our favourite type of pizza. We decided what ingredients we needed (pizza dough, tomato sauce, cheese and toppings) and then wrote out how to make our delicious pizzas.
We were inspired by Mr. Grinling’s lighthouse to make our very own lighthouses during art. We have only started to paint stripes on them this week but can’t wait to add on our light and other details next week. It’s going to be so much fun!
In Gaeilge, we learned all about An Tra (the beach). We had great fun pretending to be ag iascaireacht (fishing), ag snamh san uisce (swimming in the water) and ag deanamh caislean (making sandcastles). Our favourite game is Deir O Gradaigh. We are too clever for our teacher even though he always tries to trick us!
This week in Scoil Ghrainne is Anti-Bullying Beek. We made our anti-bully pledge and cut a stencil of our hands out and coloured them to add to the anti-bully tree. We also made up a new song called “Bully Proof” that we performed at our school assembly. It was great fun!
In PE, we enjoyed the good weather we have been having lately and got a chance to go outside to do PE. We have started on our outdoor and adventure activities and it has been fun learning to go orienteering. We loved running around the yard finding different clues and marking our control cards. Let’s hope the good weather keeps up for Active Week coming soon. With Active Week and our school tour coming up soon, excitement levels are building in our classroom.
