Pupils form Mr. Byrne’s 6th class have recently been learning about engineering and inventions. They were learning that most items in our world were designed and created in response to ‘Wants’ and ‘Needs’. When people face a problem, they invent and engineer to overcome that problem. In science, they were faced with the problem of getting a piece of paper over a wall to get a message to a friend. They created catapults using just sticks and elastic bands with sellotape. They followed the process of considering the problem, imagining a solution, designing, creating and improving.
Here we are at the end of a long year. We have been kept very busy since the beginning of the school year last August. 2021 is definitely a year we will all remember…but let’s dwell on the positives… we learned good hand hygiene, coughing etiquette, social distancing , extended our medical vocabularies, embraced ventilation, spent so much time outdoors, increased our fitness levels, survived in our bubbles and pods. Our school tours were a huge success and nobody was “travel sick”. Active week and Creative week were very enjoyable and “did what it said on the tin”. Our Intercultural Week looked a little different this year but the cooking demonstrations were very popular and we may do that again next year. Thank you to all the children for the fashion show and beautiful art work.
This week we celebrated the graduation of our 6th classes and 4 children from Croí. We hope they are leaving Scoil Ghrainne with a good sense of who they are, confidence in their abilities and an awareness of their talent. You can be very proud of your children and we wish them every success on the continuation of their journey.
As a new Principal here in Scoil Ghrainne, I am truly impressed with the dedication and commitment of staff. Thanks to them for all the work and contributions they make every day. Thanks to our Parents Association and to our Board of Management who are volunteering their time to help in the running of this great school. Without them, we would not be able to do what we do.
No doubt 2022 will bring new challenges, but we have built resilience and learned a lot about teamwork this year. We look forward to new beginnings and safer times.
Keep an eye on Aladdin during the summer months and we will keep you posted.
Stay safe and enjoy your holidays,
